Why see a prosthodontist?

Because prosthodontists are the recognized specialists in renewing and restoring your healthy smile. And because what we offer is so much more than what is widely touted as "cosmetic dentistry." We fix what others cannot – even congenital and so-called "unfixable" issues – with a natural-looking outcome. As the dental profession’s ultimate problem-solver, prosthodontics repairs and restores teeth to full function – beautifully – using biocompatible substitutes.

Led by a dental professional with three years of extended training beyond a basic dental degree, in the specialty field of treatment planning and restorative dentistry, Somerset Prosthodontic Dental’s expert team can correct a wide range of dental and oral health problems – all computer-guided and metal-free – with aesthetically pleasing results.

Do you have missing teeth, broken or chipped teeth, cavities or tooth decay, congenital dental defects, cracked teeth, crooked or crowded teeth, difficulty chewing, discolored or stained teeth, gaps between teeth, gingivitis, jaw pain, loose dentures, loose teeth, misshapen teeth, peg lateral incisors, teeth grinding (bruxism), teeth sensitivity or pain?

If you do, Somerset Prosthodontic Dental has a solution.

What Is Prosthodontics?

Of the nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association, prosthodontics is the only one dedicated to aesthetic, reconstructive and implant dentistry. The ADA defines prosthodontics as "the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth...."

A prosthodontist has three years of extended training in several areas of restorative dentistry, including dental implants, crowns, bridges, complete dentures, partial dentures, aesthetics, occlusion, and facial and dental birth developmental defects. Prosthodontists are also trained in the technical and technological aspects of laboratory fabrication of complex dental prosthetics and complex restoration of dental and facial aesthetics.

Prosthodontics has an emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment planning of patients who have complex dental needs and on providing treatment services that primarily involve the repair or replacement of natural teeth with a variety of fixed or removable prosthetic options. Increased patient demand for aesthetic services and for implant-supported prostheses has caused an increased emphasis on these types of procedures in prosthodontic training programs and practices. To successfully manage these patient needs, prosthodontists collaborate with all members of the dental team, including other specialty colleagues, general dentists, dental hygienists, and laboratory technicians. Through consultation and collaboration with the dental team, prosthodontists provide patients with a customized treatment plan and alternative options, with associated advantages, disadvantages, prognosis, risks, and time involved.
